‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ now has a release date

The Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, will debut Aug. 21 on HBO. In addition, WarnerMedia has shared new images from the first season.

House of the Dragon explores the history behind the characters that made the original series. Paddy Considine (King Viserys I), Emma D’Arcy (Princess Rhaenyra), Matt Smith (Prince Daemon), Rhys Ifans (Ser Otto Hightower), Olivia Cooke (Lady Alicent Hightower) and Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole) star.

The official logline for the show reads, “Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.”

The 10-episode series depicts how House Targaryen fell into a civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons.

House of the Dragon was created by Martin and Ryan J. Condal. Condal and director Miguel Sapochnik are executive producers and co-showrunners on the series, with Martin and Vince Gerardis executive-producing as well.
