Green Day track “American Idiot” gets reimagined in style of blink-182

One YouTuber has recreated the iconic Green Day track “American Idiot” to make it sound like blink-182 were performing it.

YouTuber SugarpillCovers, who makes many crossovers including a version of twenty one pilots in the style of blink-182, posted the amazing mashup.

The new rendition features Billie Joe Armstrong’s iconic vocals but with guitar riffs that echo blink-182 in the late 90s/early 00s.

The remake honestly slaps, and makes us wish these two powerhouses would collab to remake the song in 2019. You can hear the reimagined version below.

Speaking of remaking the song in 2019, Green Day recently did a bit of editing to the “American Idiot” lyrics during a live performance that was a dig at U.S. President Donald Trump.

The band changed up the lyrics to their song “American Idiot,” originally written about Bush, taking aim at Trump during their set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

During the band’s set, they changed up the lyrics from “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” to “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda.”

Armstrong told us back when American Idiot was dropping that he felt Americans simply wanted George Bush out and his words feel just as relevant to the current political situation.

“People are so frightened right now. The only thing they wanna do is get this guy out of office, and that’s what the whole upcoming election is based on. But isn’t that scary within itself? You can’t vote with your heart this time, and it’s almost an overambition to go on your gut instinct.”

15 years on, Armstrong says in an interview with Kerrang that there are political themes on the band’s upcoming 13th album, Father of All…, which is due Feb. 7, 2020, but they’re not directly writing about Trump.

“I mean, I draw no inspiration from the President of the United States, because he’s just… there’s nothing,” he said. “Trump gives me diarrhoea, you know? I don’t want to write a song about it!”

You can watch a clip of the performance below.

Also, since we previously mentioned it, you can listen to SugarpillCovers version of TOP’s “Tear In My Heart” done in the style of blink-182 below.
