Green Day fan recounts hanging up on Billie Joe thinking it was a prank
The wholesome video Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong made for a fan 23 years ago has resurfaced thanks to the internet.
According to Reddit user u/jmsmnn, when his wife was 15, she was a fan of the band and sent letters and art to Armstrong often. The frontman attempted to call her to say thank you, but the girl thought it was a prank and hung up on him. Armstrong’s wife even tried calling her, but the teen hung up on her too.

Undeterred, the vocalist later sent the girl a package that contained a video of him thanking her for being a fan.

In the video, Armstrong holds up various letters and Valentine’s cards the young woman had sent him, along with an old concert flyer from 1989 that he would be sending her. Check out the whole video below.
