Although both Billie Joe Armstrong and the Network, which is so not Green Day, have released new music over the past year, Green Day have stayed pretty quiet since 2020’s Father Of All Motherfuckers. Last week, however, we learned that new Green Day music was finally on the way.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, the trio debuted their new song “Here Comes The Shock” exclusively during the NHL Lake Tahoe game. The new track premiered within a highlight reel of the top plays of the first quarter of the 2020-21 NHL season. As it turns out, Green Day’s music will actually be featured through the rest of the NHL 2021 season as part of a two-year deal.

Soon after its NHL debut, the song was put out in North America before being released worldwide. Green Day have also unleashed their new video for “Here Comes The Shock” which gives punk rock fans the ultimate aerobics workout.

For the video, Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt teamed up with Hilken Mancini and Punk Rock Aerobics. The entire visual features Mancini rocking out to “Here Comes The Shock” during an energized aerobics routine that is even equipped with a shiny fanny pack.

“Here Comes The Shock” marks Green Day’s first original song to be released since 2020’s Father Of All Motherfuckers. However, fans were still treated to some other new music over the past year. Back in November, Armstrong put out No Fun Mondaysan LP made up of the iconic covers he performed in quarantine.

As well, the Network released their first album in over 15 years back in December. The mysterious band followed up 2004’s Money Money 2020 with the staggering 25-track album Money Money 2020 Pt II: We Told Ya So!

Along with the release of “Here Comes The Shock,” Green Day are gearing up for their rescheduled Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer. Last month, Rivers Cuomo revealed that Weezer are still preparing for the tour which kicks off on June 9 in Austria.
