Green Day share riffy new song "One Eyed Bastard"

Green Day have shared “One Eyed Bastard,” the fourth single from their highly anticipated new album Saviors, and this one finds the pop-punk heroes diving into their riff rock side, as Billie Joe Armstrong explains: “‘One Eyed Bastard’ started off as just a riff that I had a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff.”

As for the song’s subject matter, Armstrong says he “was just reflecting on bad times in life. That’s the thing about nostalgia, sometimes you think, ‘That was an awful time.’ Everybody’s got that ugly place in their life where they have to deal with ugly thoughts it could be revenge or whatever. Thankfully, I have an outlet in songwriting.” Check out the song and its video below.

The new song follows Green Day’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance, which has been making headlines because conservatives are pissed that Armstrong changed a lyric to “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda.” It prompted Fox News commentators to suggest that “people are so sick of being preached at about politics from rock bands,” and Tom Morello of the no-longer-active political rock band Rage Against the Machine has since weighed in:

Green Day are going on a stadium tour this summer with the Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas. See all the dates here.
