Green Day, Joan Jett, Lou Reed among 2015 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has officially announced the inductees for 2015. Green Day, Lou Reed, Joan Jett And The Blackhearts, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bill Withers and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band will all be inducted at the ceremony next April, Rolling Stone reports. Additionally, Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will receive the Award for Musical Excellence.

To be eligible for the Hall Of Fame, the artist’s first recording had to be released at least 25 years ago. With the release of their debut EP in 1989, Green Day are being inducted in their first year of eligibility.

“I had to go for a walk when I heard the news,” Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong told Rolling Stone. “We're in incredible company and I'm still trying to make sense of this. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has always held something special for me because my heroes were in there. This is a great time for us to sort of reflect and look back with gratitude.”

Joan Jett also spoke to Rolling Stone about the induction. “It's surreal and very humbling,” she said. “It's a culmination of all you've dreamed about doing as a musician. I've always been hopeful [that I'd get in] because I think it's an incredible acknowledgment. I'm very proud to be with all these great musicians. It's going to take a few minutes to sink in before I see how I really feel about it.”

Nominees who didn’t make the cut: Nine Inch Nails, the Smiths, Kraftwerk, N.W.A., Chic and Sting.

The induction ceremony will take place April 18 at Cleveland’s Public Hall. HBO will broadcast it in May.
