Halsey is one of the most inspirational modern-day musicians. She’s never afraid to speak up for what she believes in, whether it’s advocating for women’s and LGBTQ+ rights or speaking passionately about her past struggles with homelessness. 

While the singer makes many speeches at her shows and events, she often gets inspirational on Twitter about current events and her thoughts and feelings regarding the world.

1. When she opened up about being vulnerable 

Last January, Halsey penned an emotional series of tweets on vulnerability and what that meant for her upcoming album, Manic. She talked about having the “confident girl” brand and how that made her feel “scared” to be herself. She went on to discuss how it’s OK to not be OK all of the time.

The singer shared her thoughts about her recent growth in 2019 on Twitter, citing her rough past with party culture. She explained how she broke away from that scene to get more fulfillment from performing onstage. 

3. When she got real about toxic relationships

Back in 2017, Halsey enlightened her followers on “emotional bankruptcy” and how they should only put in what they’re given in return in a relationship. 

4. When she unpacked the reason why women are called “crazy” all the time

The musician made a straightforward statement about why people love to call women crazy, saying it’s because they aren’t “addressing the thing that puts them in the position to lose their composure.”

5. When she spoke against abortion bans

Halsey has always openly supported women’s health and reproductive rights. So last May when many states were implementing abortion bans, she got real about what happens when you take away a woman’s right to choose. 

“Watching the demise of our reproductive rights sends a sickening rage through my core. Autonomy is the basis of our humanity. The ability to feel and the right to choose,” she stated. She also discussed the government being “immune” to the female experience regarding abortion

6. When she discovered how to get people to recognize her bisexuality

Halsey’s completely open regarding her sexuality and has spoken out about bi-erasure. In this tweet, she used humor to comment on the reality of people not accepting her identity and how to “solve” it. 

7. When she opened up about the dangers of smoking

Halsey took to Twitter in 2018 to tell the story of how she smoked for a decade, saying that it “ruled [her] life until [she] just woke up one day and decided ‘no more.’” Her words were good advice to her thousands of followers, and even though some celebrities glamorize smoking, it’s really not cool.

8. When she stood up for Taylor Swift 

This past summer, Taylor Swift released a statement in regards to Scooter Braun acquiring her Big Machine catalog, sparking a massive #WeStandWithTaylor movement online. Halsey spoke out on behalf of Swift, penning her own statement in support of her fellow artist.

“She deserves to own the painstaking labor of her heart,” the note reads. “She has surpassed all expectations of what any artist is even capable of. She catapulted her stardom into the Milky Way. And it turns my guts that no matter how much power or success a woman has in this life, you are still susceptible to someone coming along and making you feel powerless out of spite.”

Halsey later continued to stand by Swift in November when Big Machine barred the vocalist from performing her back catalog at the American Music Awards where she was being honored as  Artist Of The Decade. The ban was resolved shortly after, and Halsey joined Camila Cabello to assist with “Shake It Off” during Swift’s medley.

9. When she called out people for being too cool

The artist got real about when people try to convince others that it’s “cool to ‘not care,’” adding that “apathy is wack.” She encouraged her followers to embrace the things they enjoy, and they shouldn’t let anyone tell them otherwise. 

10. When she spoke candidly about gun control

Halsey didn’t hold back in a tweet concerning gun control and children losing their lives in school shootings, putting partial blame on the NRA. She called the entire thing “disgusting.”
