Harry Potter spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts’ coming to theaters Nov. 18, 2016

Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that J.K. Rowling’s first installment of the Harry Potter spinoff trilogy, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, will be released on November 18, 2016.

The studio has yet to set a producer, direct or actors for the feature film, which was announced this past September.

Set in New York City, 70 years before the events of Harry Potter, the film will follow Newt Scamande, a Magizoologist and author of a Hogwarts textbook referenced within the Potter series. Rowling described Fantastic Beasts as “neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.” Rowling is adapting the script from the 2001 book, ostensibly written by the fictional Newt Scamander.

Interestingly, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 is scheduled for November 20, 2016. So, that will be a busy week for movie releases.

The original Harry Potter film series grossed $7.7 billion worldwide, before concluding in 2011.
