Hayley Williams, Halsey and more react to all-women Grammys rock nods

On Nov. 24, the Recording Academy finally unveiled the nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards. Although Hayley Williams‘ debut solo album Petals For Armor and Halsey‘s Manic were not nominated, the artists are acknowledging the Grammys for an entirely different reason.

The 2021 Grammys marks the first year that all of the nominees for Best Rock Performance are women. Now, Williams, Halsey and more are speaking out about how truly important this moment is for women in rock and alternative music.

Over the years, Paramore has earned three nominations at the Grammys and even won Best Rock Song in 2015 for “Ain’t It Fun.” Despite this, however, some fans showed support for Williams have she was left out of the 2021 Grammy nominations.

After receiving various support tweets, however, Williams reminded fans why she isn’t upset to miss out on the nominations.

“stop sending me sorry’s for not getting a nom LOL pmore been nominated lots and even won. thank you for your sweetness but stop! the women leading the rock and alt nom’s are THE story and the moment.”

For the first time ever, all of the performers nominated in the Best Rock Performance are women. The 2021 list includes Haim, Fiona Apple, Phoebe Bridgers and more. Williams is using this news as a reminder to all that it doesn’t matter who is popular online, it all truly comes down to the music.

“this is what I love to see!!!!!! and the fact that Big Thief is on this list is a massive moment for any up and coming rock bands/artists. it’s not just about who plays the biggest shows, who has the hottest tiktok… it truly CAN be about the music & the heart.”

Fans are also calling out the Grammys for snubbing Halsey who released her album Manic earlier this year. Despite the criticism, however, Halsey is another artist showing their support for women nominated in the historic category.

Lzzy Hale also congratulated Maria Brink of In This Moment. The band are nominated for Best Metal Performance alongside Poppy, Code Orange and Power Trip.

Other music fans have flocked to Twitter to share their appreciation for the historic moment in Grammys history.
