See Hayley Williams play solo songs with a full band for the first time

Hayley Williams has had quite a year with the release of her debut solo album Petals For Armor and while regular concerts aren’t something she can do, she’s made the best of her available options.

She’s linked up with NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” for a quick and short set with Julien Baker, Becca Mancari and more joining her.

Beyond Baker on guitar and Mancari on synth and vocals, Williams’ band included Petals For Armor session drummer Aaron Steele and fellow Paramore member Joey Howard on bass.

During the set, she and her bandmates performed three of her new tracks including “Pure Love,” “Taken” and “Dead Horse.” The performance was recorded from the comfort of Williams’ home for NPR’s latest instalment of Tiny Desk (Home) Concert during the pandemic. This marks the first time some of these songs have been performed outside of the studio.

Williams gave her thanks to her bandmates online while highlighting that through the “shitshow” of a year, “friends came through, per usual.”

“I’ve never done this without Paramore,” Williams says during the performance. Due to concerts being an impossibility this year, she hasn’t been able to take her new solo record on the road. Nevertheless, she’s able to try out a test run with this three song performance as we head towards the end of the year.
