In case you didn’t know, August Burns Red have been blasting System Of A Down before hitting the stage for years now. In particular, they enjoy kicking off their jam-packed live shows with the classic “Chop Suey!”

“‘Chop Suey!’ grew in popularity in our camp when we began playing it during changeover during our shows,” JB Brubaker exclusively told Alternative Press. “Whenever we’d play a headline show, the last song played over the PA before we started our set was ‘Chop Suey!'”

Brubaker goes on to say that the song has quickly become a tradition between the band and fans who come out to their shows.

“It became a tradition we’ve done for years now and our fans have taken note of it,” he continues. “They know that when ‘Chop Suey!’ starts playing over the PA that we are about to get started. While we do enjoy System Of A Down as a band, we didn’t ever bond over them in our early years or anything.”

Now, it looks like August Burns Red are taking their love for the song to the next level. This week, they unleashed their cover of “Chop Suey!” which showcases another side of the band listeners haven’t heard much over the years. For this new cover, singers Jake Luhrs and Dustin Davidson approached the song in a completely new way.

“This is truly one of the most legendary rock/metal songs of all time and it was so much fun to cover,” Brubaker says. “I’m especially proud of our singer Jake and our bassist Dustin. We haven’t done much clean singing in our music and this song showcases our vocalists in a whole new way.”

Along with covering System Of A Down, August Burns Red are truly getting into the holiday spirit. Last month, they released their cover of the Mariah Carey classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” As well, they held their annual Christmas Burns Red holiday show over the weekend.
