In late February, Green Day were one of the first acts to postpone tour dates amid coronavirus concerns. Set to embark on an Asia run throughout March, the band made the decision to push the shows to March 2021.

Back in April, Pete Wentz shared that the status of the Hella Mega tour was still pending.

“Two weeks before quarantine began, we got together and rehearsed our set with our staging,” he told NME. “Our video and our lights because it’s a stadium, so you can’t just do it the week before.”

“Now it’s like we’re circling waiting to land,” he continued. “Nobody knows anything and it’s hard because we really want to do this tour.”

Shortly after, the tour package postponed the European leg to next summer with new dates happening in June 2021.

Wentz then promised the tour would be happening one way or another in an interview on the Gunz Show. “I would say that this tour may not happen exactly at the time or when it was supposed to happen or how it was supposed to happen but the tour will happen,” he says. The North American dates were postponed shortly after with the promise to return.

Now, the bands have revealed the North American dates will kick off in July 2021 beginning with Seattle.

“New Hella Mega North American 2021 dates are here,” the bands’ statement reads. “Your existing tickets are good for the rescheduled dates so hold on to them. You’ll receive an email directly from your ticketing company allowing you to refund if you can’t make the new date. We can’t wait to see everyone at these shows next summer. Stay safe and wear your masks.”
