H.E.R. is making history with her new signature Fender Stratocaster

This week, H.E.R. launched a new signature Stratocaster with Fender which she debuted during her recent Emmys performance.

However, the latest collaboration is about more than just the signature Stratocaster. In fact, H.E.R.’s new guitar is making history at Fender.

Last year, Fender CEO Andy Mooney announced that the company would be launching more signature models with female artists in 2020. Since then, Fender has partnered up with artists including Billie Eilish who recently dropped her signature ukulele.

Now, two-time Grammy Award-winning artist H.E.R. has launched her own signature Fender – a Stratocaster with a silver “Chrome Glow” finish. The guitar features a modern oval “C”-neck shape which should be comfortable for most hand sizes. As well, it includes Fender’s Vintage Noiseless pickups that give the guitar a clean and well-defined tone. The custom neck is also engraved with H.E.R.’s artwork.

This new Strat not only marks H.E.R.’s first signature guitar with Fender, but she is also the first Black female artist in Fender’s 74-year history to launch a signature guitar.

H.E.R. explains that both her father and Fender have also played a role in her love of music over the years.

“My father taught me how to play my first blues scale on a mini black-and-white Strat®, so it’s absolutely surreal I have partnered with Fender to design my own Signature Stratocaster®,” she says.

With this new Strat, H.E.R. hopes that this collaboration inspires more women to pick up the guitar and create music.

“As an artist, I find that my most personal thoughts make the most relatable music,” she continues. “By designing a Stratocaster® with a color, shape and sound that is one-hundred-percent my own, my hope is that other young women and players from all backgrounds feel inspired to pick up this guitar, tap into their thoughts, and create amazing music.”

H.E.R. debuted the new guitar during her performance at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday. During the “In Memorium” segment, she covered Prince‘s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” while playing her signature Stratocaster.

Although this is H.E.R.’s first Fender signature Stratocaster, she has collaborated with the company in the past. Fender collaborated with H.E.R. on her head-turning clear acrylic Strat made for the 2019 Grammys. They also worked together on her all-back Stratocaster for the 2020 Pepsi Big Game commercial.

H.E.R.’s Fender Stratocaster is available for $1099 and can be purchased through Fender’s website or Reverb.
