Here's how Billie Eilish's debut album inspired CHVRCHES' new music

It looks like Billie Eilish‘s 2019 debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? left a lasting impression on CHVRCHES.

This week, CHVRCHES singer Lauren Mayberry revealed just how Eilish’s Grammyaward winning album has inspired the band’s new music.

CHVRCHES are currently working on their follow-up to 2018’s Love Is Dead. Earlier this week, frontwoman Lauren Mayberry opened up to The Guardian about what listeners can expect from the forthcoming album. She reveals that this new batch of songs “definitely got the CHVRCHES DNA,” but some of the tracks wouldn’t work on “any of the first three records.”

CHVRCHES began working on new music before the coronavirus pandemic hit. However, the ongoing world events still managed to bleed into the material they’re creating.

“The theme of it didn’t necessarily change, but it evolved because of the circumstances of 2020,” she said. “I think it was also helpful for us to be removed from the bullshit of the music industry. Everybody says that you don’t think about that stuff when you’re making a record, but in practice you totally do. You might shut the door, but it’ll sneak in the window.”

As well, it looks like Billie Eilish’s debut album has inspired the music CHVRCHES are working on. Mayberry further tells The Guardian that WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is an “advancement in pop music.” Following its release last year, the band found themselves being inspired by the record’s production.

“The vocal production on the Billie Eilish album is absolutely phenomenal – that is an advancement in pop music,” she continues. “Iain [Cook] and Martin [Doherty] like to be across what is happening for production stuff. We want to be aware of it because there’s just awesome pop music and you can learn something from it. Learn the production tricks but don’t learn the other parts: I think that was the challenge of this [new] album.”

CHVRCHES’ new album is due out in the spring of 2021 and will mark their first release since 2018’s Love Is Dead and 2019’s “Here With Me,” their collaboration with Marshmello.

Last week, Eilish seemingly confirmed that her WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? era is shortly coming to an end in a series of Instagram Stories. Along with talking about her dog Shark, she also teased that even more new music may be arriving sooner than we think.

As well, Eilish recently saw her Instagram follower count decrease by 100,000 after she shared a NSFW drawing. Naturally, she had the best response to the whole ordeal.

Earlier this month, fans got their first look at Eilish’s exclusive documentary The World’s A Little Blurry. The film’s trailer shows Eilish as her career soared in recent years. From collaborating in her bedroom studio with her brother FINNEAS to walking numerous red carpets and storming arena stages worldwide, the documentary offers an intimate look into Eilish’s recent success. The World’s A Little Blurry arrives in theaters and on Apple TV+ on Feb. 26, 2021.

Additionally, Spotify recently revealed that Eilish is the platform’s most-streamed female artist in the world for the second year in a row. Ariana GrandeTaylor SwiftDua Lipa and Halsey accompany her on the 2020 list.

Eilish could kick-off 2021 just as she did in 2020. She is currently nominated for four Grammys including Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year for “everything i wanted.”
