Now, it looks like those predictions were true. This week, Halsey officially launched about-face, her new makeup collection.

“Many of you know I’ve done my own makeup for a long time,” she tweets. “I believe makeup is about feeling cool, not looking perfect. ‘about-face’ is available for preorder now.”

Throughout her career, Halsey has truly shown her love for makeup. Back in 2018, she collaborated with Yves Saint Laurent Beauté. More recently, she transformed her iconic Manic album cover into an unforgettable look for Halloween 2020.

Ultimately, her passion for makeup eventually inspired about-face. In a tweet, Halsey confirms that she was very hands-on in the process of creating each product for the new makeup line.

“I’ve been doing makeup for myself for most of my career (even as far as SFX!) I am a student and a lover and every detail of this from shade names, to product ingredients, to packaging was me. I am so happy I could faint. Thanks for being so excited with me!!!!!”

In fact, about-face has been years in the making.

“I’ve been building this for 2 or 3 years!”

Halsey exclusively told Byrdie that about-face is a nod to the scene queen days of the past. For her, about-face is a community that welcomes outcasts and rebels like the ones she saw throughout her teenage days. Ultimately, this makeup line is a true nod to all of the Myspace-era emos out there.

“I feel like I never really see makeup anymore that’s about being fucked up and dirty and grungy and just wrong, and so much makeup used to be about that,” she says. “I’m just paying homage to the style of makeup and the makeup influences that I’ve always loved: very ’90s-heavy, very Myspace scene queen, very emo revival.”

Halsey goes on to say that about-face is meant to be androgynous, giving all customers the freedom to express themselves how they want to.

“It’s something for the generation of e-girls and e-boys out there,” she says. “I’m watching you. I would have been friends with all of you 10 years ago. I love you.”

The about-face collection includes 12 products ranging from limited edition makeup bags to beauty sponges, liquid highlighters and matte lip colors. Head here to check out the full collection. According to the website, orders are expected to ship on Jan. 25 and some items are already selling out.

Before 2020 came to a close, Halsey revealed that she has plenty of surprises in store for 2021. Along with her makeup collection and starring role in Sing 2, it looks like Halsey has three more big surprises on the way for fans.
