Here’s how Jack White ended up replacing a busker’s smashed guitar

For those of you that are looking for some positive news this week, Jack White has got you covered.

The White Stripes frontman bought Matt Grant, a Scottish busker, a new guitar after his old was destroyed. Now, Grant is reacting to the random act of kindness that has since gone viral.

On Oct. 20, Grant was playing his guitar in Edinburgh when a lady approached him and began shouting. She then grabbed hold of his $400 guitar and smashed it right in front of him. The woman was later arrested for her connection to the incident.

Grant took to social media to share the state of his instrument after the ordeal. He also set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money to purchase a new guitar.

Shortly after the launch of his GoFundMe page, Grant received £4,000 in donations which he used to buy a new acoustic guitar. However, Jack White eventually heard about the whole situation and soon stepped in to further help Grant out.

Grant tells MailOnline that he recently visited a local guitar shop in Edinburgh. While there, he found out that the shop manager had been trying to get ahold of him.

“It’s just amazing,” he says. “I was in the guitar shop and the manager had been trying to get hold of me all day on the Go Fund Me page, but I had closed it as I already had more than enough donations in.”

Grant then recalls the shop manager telling him that White wanted to get him a new guitar.

“He said, ‘Jack saw what happened bud, and he wants to get you a guitar,'” Grant continues. “I said I already had one now because I had been in and bought my new acoustic one and he said, ‘Keep that one and get another one. Jack really wants to help.'”

Grant went on to pick up a Fender Stratocaster worth about $4000. He shares that he plans to email White to stay thank you after finding out that White, unsurprisingly, doesn’t own a phone.

Since sharing his experience, Grant’s story has quickly gone viral. He posted on Instagram on Thursday that his phone is blowing up with emails and text messages regarding his story. Despite his growth in popularity over the past few days, Grant was back out performing in Edinburgh on Oct. 22.
