This hospital’s playlist could save someone’s life, literally

For fans of the The Office, you may have learned a vital piece of advice from their iconic “Stress Relief” episode about CPR for cardiac arrest. The show describes how you can perform CPR on someone’s chest by pumping to the beat of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive.”

Though the Bee Gees’ ’70s song is one of the more popular life-saving tracks, the beat from several of your favorite emo songs can also be used to help those around you, indeed, stay alive.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital created an amazing playlist complete with some rock songs that happen to have the perfect CPR rhythm. According to the American Heart Association, the ideal rate is 100 to 120 beats per minute.

The playlist contains 47 songs that will appeal to music fans everywhere. Featured artists include Adele (“Rumour Has It”) and Pink Floyd (“Another Brick In The Wall”). However, they also included tracks from our own playlists with Fall Out Boy (“This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race”) and the All-American Rejects (“Gives You Hell”).

Though these songs will be helpful in the case of someone going into cardiac arrest, it’s essential to still call 911 as soon as possible in medical situations. CPR must be administered swiftly in order to promote bodily circulation. Even though you may not be certified in CPR, you could still use your favorite song to save someone’s life.

This is not the first time a hospital has made a playlist to assist patients or promote health. In 2016, Jacques Moritz, MD, ob-gyn created the perfect labor experience. Yes, pregnant women can bring new life into the world through the help of Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” and Death Cab For Cutie’s “Transatlanticism.”
