How you can help Paris now

For many of us, the November 13 attack on Paris was thousands of miles from home, but that doesn't mean our community is powerless to help. Multiple organizations have mobilized volunteers on the ground, while other foundations are accepting donations to provide immediate aid.

Here are some ways you can show your support:

On social media, you can use the hashtag #strandedinUS or #strandedincanada to open your home to French nationals blocked out by the border closing. If you're in Paris, you can use #PorteOuverte to provide shelter.

If you can't offer your home, but want to show your solidarity, Facebook has created a French flag filter to apply to your profile picture. If you're trying to find a loved one, Facebook has also enabled its Safety Check feature.

Donate to the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders, who have both already mobilized volunteers to provide medical aid. Red Cross donations will benefit the entire organization, but you can donate directly to the French Red Cross as well. Parisian locals can donate blood with the French National Blood Service.

Airbnb has created a disaster relief tool to provide housing in Paris. All service fees are waived until November 17.

Consider contributing to any number of GoFundMe campaigns. You can donate to assist the family of deceased Eagles Of Death Metal merch manager Nick Alexander.

You can also donate to Secours Catholique-Caritas Catholique, a French Catholic relief organization. Another option is Secours Populaire Français, a humanitarian organization that typically fights poverty, but has organized efforts in the wake of the attacks.

You can also donate to Friends of Fondation de France, Inc., who accept American credit cards.
