Influential artist Leonard Cohen dies at 82

Singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen has died.

Sony Music Canada confirmed the artist’s death on his Facebook page.

“It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away,” the statement says. “We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.”

A cause of death has not yet been given.

The 82-year-old was one of the main artists to emerge in the ‘60s and early ‘70s, and his work spanned five decades. “Hallelujah,” one of his most well-known songs, is taken off his 1984 album Various Positions.

Cohen's fourteenth and final album, You Want It Darker, was released Oct. 21 of this year.
