The update is available for all Instagram users and can be activated in the Comment Controls center in the app.

“Instagram will filter bullying comments intended to harass or upset people in the Instagram community,” CEO and co-founder Kevin Systrom shared. “This new filter hides comments containing attacks on a person’s appearance or character, as well as threats to a person’s well-being or health.”

The new feature alerts the Instagram team of repeated problems or offensive comments, so action can be taken.

Systrom also announced the app is expanding its policies to protect young public figures from bullying. “Protecting our youngest community members is crucial to helping them feel comfortable to express who they are and what they care about,” he wrote.

In order to check Instagram's new feature, you can go to Settings and scroll down to Comments, where you will find the Hide Offensive Comments option. You can toggle it on or off.
