Instagram's always rolling out features that make users' lives easier, and this one may be the most useful yet: There's finally going to be a “mute button” to silence a user's posts without unfollowing them, according to BuzzFeed News.

Yep, now you can spare any sore feelings among your litany of Instagram friends by quietly muting someone, rather than altogether unfollowing them or even blocking them. Sounds great, right? We can't wait to try it out!

Twitter's had a mute button for what feels like forever, so this seems like a win. Previously, it was possible to mute someone's Instagram Stories (by tapping and holding their profile icon) but not that user's pics in your main Insta feed.

“Introducing Mute: A New Way to Personalize Your Feed,” reads Instagram's press release on the feature, which lets you “hide posts in feed from certain accounts” so you can “make your feed even more personalized.”

Of course, you'll still be able to see a muted user's stuff by going to their profile page, and you'll still get notified “about comments or posts you’re tagged in.” But the mute feature certainly seems like it will save some friendships.

However, the new mute feature isn't available to everyone just yet. We actually just checked, and don't see it on our Insta yet. But stay calm, fellow followers: Instagram promises the mute button will be available to all very soon.

“We’re aiming to make feed the best place to share and connect with the people and interests you care about,” say Insta in the announcement. “Mute will be rolling out over the coming weeks. To learn more, visit our Help Center.”

Do you have any Instagram friends you're planning to mute? Sound off in the comments.
