Issues’ Tyler Carter gets engaged, has sweetest proposal

Issues frontman Tyler Carter is giving us all the feels today as he took to Twitter to announce his engagement to Trent Morey Leffler.

Carter released a two-minute video capturing the proposal while the duo were on a jet ski. The sweet moment was set to Landon Pigg’s super-romantic “Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop,” as if we weren’t crying tears of happiness already.

The proposal took place earlier this summer in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Carter prefaced the announcement as being a recent secret.

“I’m gonna let you guys in on something that hasn’t really been a secret for very long, but I can’t really contain my emotions, nor do I feel like I have to,” Carter says in a tweet. “If anyone was wondering why I’ve been a better version of myself these days, what’s been fueling my motivation…”

Carter has always been somewhat private with his personal life, discussing this fact in 2013 after speaking out about a venue employee’s firing for wearing Hostage Calm’s “I Support Same-Sex Marriage” T-shirt.

However, following the video’s posting, Carter elaborated on his feelings toward sharing it with fans and the world.

“Being bisexual, being pans, being straight, or gay—none of these labels mean a thing when you find the one you want to spend the rest of your life with,” he says. “I never want to define myself when it comes to the songs I write and the perspectives I write them in.”

I’ve experienced many sides of my life, and I’ve written about them all,” he continues. “When I write about a female or a male, don’t discredit my emotions. But in the end, I won’t be the artist that writes about only what the radio wants to play for the masses. I will be genuine to myself. I don’t want to be the artist that hides my personality or masks my persona with this cool, universal appeal. I just wanna be who I am and present myself as a human, and today I’m a very happy human.”

Congrats Tyler and Trent from all of us here at AP! We wish you the very best in your future together.
