‘IT: Chapter Two’ takes “detours and departures” from book, director says
We are getting very close to the release of IT: Chapter Two and we couldn’t be more excited.
Last week, the brand new trailer for the film finally dropped after making its debut at ScareDiego 2019.
Stephen King made the big announcement that the trailer was coming prior to the release.“Tomorrow, at Scare Diego: IT hits the fans,” he tweeted.
King’s post refers to Warner Bros. and New Line’s ScareDiego event, an off-site panel which is held amid all of the official San Diego Comic-Con activities.
Following the trailer reveal, Director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti hosted a live Twitter Q&A using the hashtag #AskAboutIt from the official Twitter account.
Now, the trailer is finally here, and we’re seriously freaked out. One of the biggest reveals from the trailer is that 27 years after the first film, the Losers’ Club members have forgotten everything they went through in Derry.
The trailer also shows Mike (Isaiah Mustafa) telling his friends that even though they forgot about Pennywise the Clown, he didn’t just disappear.
The trailer also might have shown the scene writers keep teasing that is the “most blood that’s ever been in a horror film.”You can see the full trailer for yourself below.
Now, Muschietti has shared even more information about the film and how it departs from the novel.
“Even though we stay true to the spirit of the original story, there’s some changes and detours and departures that are very interesting,” he said. “You know, (keep) the audience surprised and for people who’ve read the book.”
He then elaborated as to how he approached making the film under that guideline.
"The only existing maze was the challenge of making a second part, in terms of script, was basically keeping the tension all the time, condensing all the events that happened in this timeline into almost like a real-time journey,” he said. “So, we had to interlace some of the events, or connect some events - in the book, they're a little looser - and staying true to the emotion of that section, and also turn the screws of tension here and there, and also create events that make things more difficult. Create obstacles and diversion and forces that are not necessarily in the book."
We can't wait to see what he's talking about when the movie comes out.

Also, at this year’s ScareDiego event, the film unveiled three exclusive clips.
According to ComingSoon.com, the first clip showed the reunion of the Losers’ Club at a Chinese restaurant, where the adults slowly but surely start to remember their horrific past. Mike is the only one who remembers what happened, so he filled everyone in. It ends with a super creepy fortune cookie moment, where the cookies spella message about a club member that didn’t make it to the reunion.
The second clip shows Bill trying to save a kid that lives in the home he grew up in. While he’s following the kid, Pennywise appears and traps the kid in a box of nightmares. The scene shows Pennywise smashing through glass to attack the kid, and is seriously a thing of our nightmares.
The final scene shows the Losers’ Club back in the Neibolt house where we see Bill feeling guilty about some things. Then, they all unite to go after Pennywise and explore the creepy house. There is a super creepy twist that fans say is pretty crazy, so we’ll have to wait and see it for ourselves.
