It looks like a new Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! album is finally on the way

It’s been four years since we last heard new music from Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! with “Blame It On This Song.” Now, it looks like the wait for a new album from the French band is almost over.

Bertrand Poncet has finally revealed that the band are working on their next album and it’s full of nostalgic sounds from their past releases.

Back in May, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! confirmed that they are working on new music for the first time since 2016. During a Fearless Records livestream, Poncet revealed the band’s plans to finally share some new material while confirming that they are very much still together.

“I have big news,” he said. “I am incredibly excited to share with you that we are currently and actively working on new materials that will probably be released later this year. Mark my words guys, it’s going to be huge so stay tuned.”

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! initially planned to unveil a new song or two for Slam Dunk 2020. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the UK-based festival has been postponed to 2021. Since then, the band have continued to work on new music and made plans to release an EP.

“We had been talking about new material for a while now, and we were going to have one or two songs ready for Slam Dunk Festival,” Poncet tells Wall Of Sound. “Since that got canceled, our label were like, ‘Hey, why don’t you guys write more songs, then you can come out with an EP or something?’ So we kept writing and the label got really excited with what we came up with already.”

With the newfound time off, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! found themselves writing so much new material that they now have enough for a full-length album. However, it may be a while before fans get to hear it.

“We haven’t really communicated on the fact that we’re making an actual album yet, but everybody on our team is very excited about it,” he continues. “The plan is now to have the album ready for 2021 and by its release, hopefully, there will be festivals and tours again.”

Poncet further shares that the band are revisiting their past sounds for this next release. Although he keeps many details secret, he does share that fans won’t be disappointed.

“There will be something for everyone,” he says. “From the typical Chunk! vibe of Pardon My French to even older stuff from our first album. We really focused on making our sound evolve this time around. For a band like us, that’s in such a niche genre, it’s not as easy to come up with a fourth album without being too repetitive or redundant.”

Back in May, Poncet also shared that Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! are taking a very different approach to writing. Despite the change in structure, he assured fans that this new material is some of their catchiest yet.

“It’s still pretty early in the process but it’s safe to say that they’re the catchiest songs we’ve ever written,” he said. “The pre-production has been on repeat for a while so that’s a good sign, and we will make sure they come out perfectly and exactly the way we want. It sure took us a while to get back on track but that time was necessary because after three studio albums it can be hard to feel inspired.”

This news of Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!’s new album comes just one day after the 10th anniversary of their debut album Something For Nothing. The album includes some iconic hits such as “In Friends We Trust” and “Captain Blood.”
