Kittie share “Eyes Wide Open,” their first song in 13 years

After debuting a new song, “Vultures,” during their Sick New World set last year, Canadian metal trailblazers Kittie have returned with their first proper single in 13 years, “Eyes Wide Open.”

“Eyes Wide Open” serves Kittie’s first new studio-recorded music since 2011’s I’ve Failed You. Premiered earlier this week on SiriusXM, the single — which showcases their knack for catchy, biting, death-metal-inflected heaviness — went wide today, Valentine's Day, accompanied by a high-octane music video.

Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Korn), “Eyes Wide Open” is Kittie’s first release for their new label, Sumerian Records, and it could well be the first taste of a forthcoming full-length, though no official word has come yet.

“Our first new material in 13 years, 'Eyes Wide Open' is a vision quest for truth," vocalist-guitarist Morgan Lander says. "It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance to reveal one's true motives. 'Eyes Wide Open' is a lesson in trust, betrayal, and ultimately the ability to see behind the curtain to reveal all. It was one of the first songs we wrote, coming together again after a long time away from creating, and I think you can really hear the fires reigniting in this track.”
