Cracking open a can of pamplemousse LaCroix after a day of work or school is exactly what most sparkling water addicts need to give themself an extra boost. A woman came forward alleging that some of the ingredients in this favorite carbonated drink are artificial. One of these ingredients is called linalool, which is found in cockroach insecticide. Although linalool is found in 63 spices, the National Institutes of Health’s National Toxicology Program noted in a report that linalool is “a common flavoring in beverages and foods.”

In response, National Beverage Corp. stated, “The lawsuit provides no support for its false statements about LaCroix’s ingredients. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers ‘natural’ on a food label to be truthful and non-misleading when ‘nothing artificial or synthetic (including all color additives regardless of source) has been included in, or has been added.’”

The popular seltzer, which comes in 21 flavors, stresses that it contains no sugar, calories, sodium, artificial ingredients, GMOs, phosphoric acid, gluten or animal products.

LaCroix fans took to Instagram to find out exactly what has been happening with the brand and the lawsuit. Their latest Instagram is littered with questions and comments. LaCroix answered  to every responder by saying:

We categorically deny all allegations. Natural flavors in LaCroix are derived from the natural essence oils from the named fruit used in each of the flavors. All essences contained in LaCroix are certified by our suppliers to be 100 percent natural. You can find more information at the link: http://bit.ly/2CrPI7p

Moving forward, the company said, “National Beverage will vigorously seek actual and punitive damages among other remedies from everyone involved in the publication of these defamatory falsehoods.”
