Balance And Composure

Balance And Composure drop new track, "Run From Me," from impending Record Store Day release—listen

After an impressive 2016 with the release of their anticipated record Light We Made, Balance And Composure have returned with a new limited seven-inch, Slow Heart, for this year’s Record Store Day. AP is proud to bring you a first listen of the first song from the single “Run From Me.” Atreyue Ryken recently caught up with B&C frontman Jon Simmons to learn more about the track.

Today we’re premiering “Run From Me” from your upcoming Record Store Day seven-inch, Slow Heart. Tell us a bit about that track.

That song’s about what our lifestyle’s done to relationships back home. It’s not about a specific person, but about what happens to relationships when you’re gone most of the year. Either friendships or romantic relationships, it’s about the stress with how things change while you’re gone and how life doesn’t stop at home. It’s a selfish job, and it’s about addressing that with our loved ones back home.

Both tracks from Slow Heart are from the same sessions as Light We Made. Was there any specific motivation behind slating these for separate release?

We had three extra songs that didn’t really fit the sound of the rest of the album. We released one, “Revelation,” on a seven-inch last year, and then the other two we were just kind of holding off on. Now feels like the right time to let the world hear them.

Like Light We Made, the Slow Heart seven-inch will be released on Vagrant/BMG, which was a big jump since your 2013 release. How did your relationship with that label come together?

We met with Vagrant last fall, and we just liked everything they were saying. They had the same ideals as us and same approach we wanted—it just clicked. We met with a few other labels and we just didn’t feel as connected as we did with Vagrant.

With a full US headlining tour under your belt since the album’s release and another starting this month, how have fans been reacting to the new songs live?

Awesome. I think we’re getting a better reaction for the new songs than the old songs nowadays. We just toured Australia, and you could definitely tell people were more into hearing the new songs, which is really cool, because we’re more excited to play those. Our set is all over the place, old and new, we’ve got everything in the set list.

Are there any new songs in particular that you’re looking forward to playing on this tour?

I personally like singing “Is It So Much To Adore?” but I love playing “Postcard” and “Midnight Zone.” “Spinning” is really fun too.

Balance And Composure will be hitting the road for their next US tour on April 20 with From Indian Lakes and Queen Of Jeans. You can check out the exclusive song full list of dates below. Make sure to also check for your nearest Record Store Day location here.
