In a recent print issue of Kerrang magazine, Manson contends that he still cares about Twiggy (the stage name for musician Jeordie White) but that creative differences between the two preceded the bassist being accused of rape by Jack Off Jill's Jessicka Addams last year—allegations that further hindered the pair's already contentious artistic alliance.

“I did not divorce Twiggy as a friend or brother,” Manson says, “because I still care about him greatly. But I can't say that my musical relationship with Twiggy has been good for several years.” The shock-rocker says that a fruitful partnership with producer Tyler Bates only highlighted the need to jettison unproductive musical and personal connections.

“My relationship with Tyler Bates on The Pale Emperor made something open up in me,” he says of the fertile collaboration on his ninth studio album from 2015, “and I didn’t want to let negative energy back in my life. There were other people in my life that I thought were friends that I had to cut out this year, and I had to clean house and adopt a new attitude.”

It looks like Manson is taking that newly-positive outlook and aiming to make this year better than the last, as the musician certainly faced some trying times in 2017—including the death of former Marilyn Manson guitarist Daisy Berkowitz (Scott Putesky) at age 49, and his own, near-fatal stage accident in which a prop crushed the singer mid-performance.

“I never live up to my resolutions,” he admits of scrapping any specific goals for the new year, before adding that he just “want[s] to make 2018 better than 2017. This year provided proof that you can’t control life and death, but by force of will you can make your life better. Mostly, I just want to enjoy fucking doing my job—not that I consider what I do as a job.”
