Marvel to add “prominent LGBT heroes” to MCU post-‘Avengers: Endgame’
Avengers: Endgame technically was the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to feature an openly gay character.
However, the role was met with backlash as it was a nameless man who only appeared on screen for a few seconds.

Played by co-director Joe Russo, the character was grieving the death of his partner while attending the same support group as Captain America.
The Russo brothers have since teased that while Joe was the first “openly gay” character, there’s also a “secretly gay” character. The news came when the two appeared on EW Morning Live.
“I think Kevin (Feige) will make that announcement, I’m sure pretty soon,” Joe said of the “openly gay” character. He added that it will not be a character with “insinuations” about their sexuality.
Now, Marvel head Feige has opened to io9 about Joe’s gay character and what is to come as far as LGBTQ representation in the MCU.
“That was never meant to be our first focused character,” Feige said. “That was just meant to be a matter of fact and a matter of life and a matter of truth. And I liked that our hero, Steve Rogers, doesn’t blink an eye at that fact. It is just the truth and heartbreaking for his loss and for the life he’s trying to put back together.”
“It was never meant to be looked at as our first hero. I guess it’s the first reference so it doesn’t, of course, get a lot of attention,” he continued.
Then, he finally spoke about the future.
“We haven’t been shy about saying that that’s coming and that there’s much more prominent LGBT heroes in the future … coming soon,” he said.
Of course, Feige didn’t reveal the details about the character or characters who will be LGBTQ identifying and appearing in the films. This can only lead to speculation and all we can do is wait.
Other Endgame news
Avengers: Endgame fans might just have to head back to theaters to see the film one more time because it is getting re-released with a post-credits scene.
That’s right, the Marvel film is headed back to theaters June 28th with the new scene. Many people believe its the film’s attempt to beat Avatar as the highest-grossing film of all time.
Endgame currently has 2,743.4 billion and Avatar has 2,788 billion, so it’s pretty freaking close.
“Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie,” producer Kevin Feige said about the re-release. “If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.”
It was pretty shocking when the Endgame crew first announced there would be no post-credit scene. Then, the film added the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer to the end of the film, as the trailer contains some major spoilers.

It was previously reported that the warning would be included because the Marvelfilm takes place after the events of Endgame, which we know was full of unexpected plot points.
“If you haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame yet, stop watching because there’s some serious spoilers coming up,” Holland said. “But if you have seen Avengers: Endgame, enjoy the trailer.”
It makes sense that because it will follow Endgame anyway that it be shown after the film ends.
Instead of the warning, Holland will appear on the screen before the film to tell people to stick around after to see it.

Now, there will be an actual scene playing after the film with never-before-scene footage. Looks like we’re headed back to the movies next weekend.

The film also won big at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, taking home the prize for Best Movie.
Also at the awards, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was being honored for his lifetime achievements, and apparently the two worlds collided.
While at the awards Marvel director Anthony Russo was asked where The Rock would fit into the MCU.
“The superhero that I would most like The Rock to play is The Rock. He is the best version of him,” Russo answered.
While it definitely wasn’t exactly what we were looking for, he has a point — The Rock is a bit superhuman already. Does this mean The Rock will make an appearance the next time the Avengers decide to assemble? We’ll have to wait and see.
As previously stated, Johnson was given the MTV Generation Award and came out the only way that seemed appropriate — to “We Will Rock You” by Queen.
