Marvel and M. Night Shyamalan “talked a couple of times” on projects

M. Night Shyamalan is one of the most interesting filmmakers around with his unique directing style and what he could bring to the Marvel universe is interesting to consider.

Shyamalan is revealing he’s talked with the studio a few times and likes what they bring to the film world, so it’s not out of the question he could work with them eventually.

According to MovieWeb, when asked about if the studio were to reach out about working with him, Shyamalan gave a vague but positive response.

“We’ve talked a couple of times. All good. I love what they do. They’re amazing,” says Shamalan.

Shyamalan’s 2000 superhero flick Unbreakable changed the game for comic book movies and you can even see some of his influence in the Marvel Comics Universe.

While Marvel is booked solid for at least the next couple of years, Shyamalan could potentially slot something in for Phase 5. The director doesn’t currently have anything lined up to work on.

Marvel hasn’t officially announced Phase 5 but there is some speculation that the Blade announcement for 2022 could be the beginning.

Regardless, Shyamalan is still a huge fan of the Marvel movies, though he prefers where it started to now. The director says the first Iron Man movie was excellent and holds a high value for him.

“I remember meeting (director Jon Favreau) at a party once and I told him, you know, I went over to him specifically, I just said, ‘I thought you did something really, really deft, this grounded humor and the way Robert (Downey Jr.) really brought this flavor.’ Of course that became the Marvel brand, that type of humor. But at that time when I saw it, I was super taken because it was really super grounded. Even to this day, I still find it the most grounded of the MCU.”
