Today marks the 15-year anniversary of one of the most quotable films of our time, Mean Girls. Since its release, the timeless film scored a Broadway musical adaptation and inspired the music video for Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next.”

In celebration of its 15 years of fetchness, we’ve compiled a list of 15 real moments between the characters, because in a world full of plastic, what’s more punk than being yourself?

1. Cady’s Halloween costume

Even though she didn’t know about the “rules of Halloween,” Cady still pulls off her costume. It’s not in line with what other people are rocking at the party, but she sticks with it anyway.

2. Damian’s talent show performance

Despite having some crazy nerves, Damian took the stage at the talent show performance and absolutely owned it.  

3. Kevin G’s rap

There’s no mistaking that Kevin G’s rap is one of the most iconic scenes of the whole film. He proves that even if you might be considered a nerd, there’s more to someone than meets the eye.

4. Gretchen’s rant about Julius Caesar

Gretchen blew up in class while giving a presentation about Julius Caesar, but it could’ve been because she was truly revealing some of her thoughts about Regina. Either way, she had some passionate words to share.

5. Cady goes primal

Sure, it’s just a daydream, but when Cady attacks Regina for hitting on Aaron Samuels, it’s pretty badass. It makes us wonder what would’ve happened if she had actually defended herself against Regina sooner.

6. Gretchen stands up to Regina

Gretchen Wieners was used to following Regina’s orders, that is until Regina wouldn’t follow her own rules.

7. All the girls in the school call out Regina

There are many iconic quotes from the film, but one of the best has to be Ms. Norbury questioning the school “If you’ve ever been personally victimized by Regina George.” Regina had tried to make herself look like a victim, but everything she did came back to bite her in the ass.

8. Janis crowd surfs at the assembly

Janis Ian is the emo high schooler we all aspired to be. She doesn’t care what anyone thinks and proves that point when she crowd surfs at a very serious school assembly.

9. Karen apologizes to Regina at the assembly

Karen may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but she tries to do good when she can. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Gretchen, but we don’t live in a perfect world.

10. Janis calls Cady on her shit

There’s nothing like the cold, hard truth to make you realize you’ve been an asshole, and that’s exactly what Janis delivers to Cady.

11. Cady apologizes to everyone and joins the mathletes

Like any person should after they realize the weight of the damage they might’ve caused, Cady apologized to everyone, including Ms. Norbury. Fortunately, Ms. Norbury forgave her, but still had her “punished” by having her compete in the mathletes competition.

12. Regina opens up to Cady

This shot may have been a deleted scene, but it’s an important one nonetheless. Even though it may just be the pain meds making Regina tell Cady about her childhood, it’s still nice to see that she’s just as vulnerable as the rest of us.

13. Janis and Damian wear matching suits

You know you’re best friends when you wear matching outfits, and that’s no secret to Janis and Damian. This duo dominated Spring Fling in matching purple suits. Needless to say, they both looked flawless.

14. Cady breaks her crown and shares it at Spring Fling

Cady breaking her crown and giving it to everyone is such a heart-warming scene. Everyone was made equal in that moment.

15. Regina playing lacrosse

After getting out of her brace, Regina is able to do everything she used to and more. Turns out lacrosse is the perfect sport for her. Who knew?
