Militarie Gun appear on the cover of Alternative Press’ Winter 2023 Issue
Militarie Gun are coming off a massive year. Powered by a nonstop work ethic and their hooky debut album, Life Under the Gun, the band’s packed shows and towering list of co-signs are a reflection of all the people in their corner — and greater things to come. For our Winter 2023 Issue, frontman Ian Shelton slowed down to discuss their whirlwind year and star-making record.
During his conversation with Huw Baines, Shelton shares that he enjoys messing with genre tags and expectations, like when his band swapped loud riffs for acoustic guitar strums and gentle vocals on “Very High (Under The Sun).” “It fucks with this notion of people talking about us being a hardcore band,” he says. “I’m like, ‘Well, how many hardcore bands could do an acoustic set the way we could?’ I like fucking with the titles, and the labels, that people put on us.”
