More details emerge on the death of Wayne Static

Over the weekend, we brought you the unfortunate news that Static-X founder/frontman Wayne Static had passed away at the young age of 48. At the time, a representative for Static had said that no further information was available. But a number of websites and musicians still speculated that the singer/guitarist’s death was drug-related.

Now, a new press release from Static’s publicist goes into further detail, saying explicitly that drugs were not involved, and Static passed away “quietly in his sleep.”

Read the full text of the press release below:

“HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 1, 2014) – Today is a sad day in the music industry – Front-man and founding member WAYNE STATIC of STATIC-X passed away quietly in his sleep at his home last night.

The couple was getting ready to leave for a Fall/Winter tour this morning. They were to have left the night before on Halloween, but decided they would head out early in the morning November 1st.

The couple, known for partying heavy, had left hard drugs in 2009 and had not touched them since. Static’s first solo album – Pighammer – was a tribute to his new non-drug life and hoped it would help others to get clean from hard chemical drugs.

More official information about his passing will be released in the following days. This is not a drug related incident or an O. D. Please be courteous to his family and wife and leave positive messages~”

The other member of the couple referred to in the press release is Tera Wray, Static’s wife of six years. It’s important to note that we won’t know the true cause of Static’s death until the official coroner’s report. We will keep you updated on this story as more details continue to emerge.

Wayne Static (born Wayne Richard Wells) founded Static-X in Los Angeles in 1994. The band would go on to release six studio albums—including their platinum-selling debut, Wisconsin Death Trip—before cooling off in 2009. Static then released his debut solo album, Pighammer, in 2011. He would've kicked off a co-headlining tour with Powerman 5000 on November 6.
