More than two-thirds of smartphone users "cannot live without" their device

According to research by the Online Publisher's Association, 68% of of smartphone users say they cannot live without their device.

An estimated 44% of the U.S. population with internet access owns smartphones. Think about that for a second. Of course, a third of the U.S. wouldn't literally drop dead if all smartphones died tomorrow, but the dependence is such that many people cling to their smartphones as a sort of life raft.

The study also found that a majority of smartphone users check their device's mobile web/apps several times a day, meaning we see more nose-to-screen stumbling action on the sidewalks than not.

What people are looking at the most, using their high tech devices however, is not a matter of life-and-death, nor is it anything too high tech. Most smartphone users use either apps or mobile web (mobile web is still used more than apps, according to the study) to access weather or the news.

Are we too immersed? Do you think you would die without your device?
