Morrissey and crew fall ill, cancel Atlanta performance for the fourth time in 18 months

The universe seems determined not to let Atlanta residents witness the live spectacle that is Morrissey.

For the fourth time, in the span of 18 months, the Pope Of Mope has canceled his planned appearance at Atlanta's Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

First, a planned Dec. 3, 2012 date was part of a mass postponement, as the singer was forced to fly home to England to tend to his sick mother. Then, the new Jan. 31, 2013 date was also postponed, after Moz fell ill and was hospitalized for a bleeding ulcer. Next, further ailments, including Barrett's esophagus and double pneumonia, caused the former Smiths frontman to cancel the remainder of his U.S. tour, including a once-again postponed Atlanta date, scheduled for March 30, 2013.

After 14 months away from the road, Morrissey embarked on a new U.S. tour last month, which, up until now, has gone off without a hitch. The 16 date streak has been broken, however, and Atlanta has, once again, found themselves without a makeup date in the foreseeable future. According to the show's promoters, “Morrissey and the touring crew have come down with a virus,” despite the fact that “the show was selling robustly,” and noted “all tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

Morrissey's history of cancelling in Atlanta is not a new phenomenon. A lost voice forced a 2009 cancelation at the Variety Playhouse. He did manage to make two performances in 2007 however; his last time in the city.

No word on whether the tour will resume as planned Friday evening in Atlantic City. If last year's tour woes are any indication, however, it could honestly go either way. Here's a full list of remaining dates:

June 6 – Revel Ovation Hall – Atlantic City, NJ
June 7 – Boston Opera House – Boston, MA
June 10 – Meyerhoff Symphony Hall – Baltimore, MD
June 11 – Lincoln Theatre – Washington, DC
June 13 – Civic Opera House – Chicago, IL
June 14 – James Whiting Auditorium – Flint, MI
June 16 – Artpark Main Stage Theater – Lewiston, NY
June 17 – Grand Opera House – Wilmington, DE
