Mötley Crüe bassist shifts beef with KISS, “We misdirected our anger”

Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx has responded to the beef going on between them and KISS. If you recall last month, Mötley Crüe called out KISS for allegedly copying the stage design and production of their final tour.

However, today, Sixx is not pointing the finger at KISS themselves anymore, but rather the production company they’re both working with.

In an interview with SiriusXM, Sixx says that they “misdirected their anger” when they first lashed out at KISS.

“We’ve got no problems with KISS,” Sixx says in an interview with SiriusXM. “You know who we had a little bit of a problem with? This company—I’m not even going to give them props naming them. We’ve worked with them a long time with our production manager and they’ve done stuff with us that’s really cool, like Tommy’s roller coaster and different versions of that.”

However, the Mötley Crüe bassist continues on to say that the band actually misconstrued their emotions toward Travis Scott as well. Originally, drummer Tommy Lee called out Scott’s stage design before realizing the same production company catered to him, too.

That said, Sixx put two and two together, admitting that Scott probably had no knowledge of the alleged stage design similarities.

“Then, they give the same thing to Travis Scott and Tommy was bummed,” Sixx says. “But we misdirected our anger. He was mad as Travis Scott—he probably didn’t even know that we did that however many years ago. Then, my thing was they’re using the same arms that we developed. But you know what? Not shame on KISS, not shame on Travis Scott—shame on the company for doing that. We will never work with them again.”

Back in February, Mötley Crüe took to social media to share their thought process behind the similar stage setups. The band said that KISS’ setup was almost “identical” to theirs.

“But then I saw a video [of KISS] and they were using our arms. It was exactly our shtick. I just think it’s uncool—I think it’s uncool of the company to make the same thing again for them,” Sixx says in a story with Kerrang!. “I don’t know, it just bothers me. “It was our last tour on Earth, and something that people have posters of on their walls is now being repeated by KISS. Sure, we all use pyro and stuff, but with this we re-invented an idea. And this was our idea.”

The production company has also worked with blink-182 where they constructed Travis Barker’s flying drum riser for their return in 2009, which marked their first post-hiatus tour. The company has also worked with acts such as Green Day, Disturbed, Gwen Stefani, Miley Cyrus and more.
