Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx apologizes for sexual assault story in band’s memoir

Nikki Sixx has recently apologized for a graphic sexual assault story that was published in Mötley Crüe’s memoir the Dirt, which was published back in 2001. Written by the band and author Neil Strauss, the story in question refers to a night at a party, where he and drummer Tommy Lee engaged in sexual activity that may have not been completely consensual.

However, according to Rolling Stone, Sixx does not recall the incident in the memoir in real life. Instead, Sixx says that the anecdote could have been “made up” or “greatly embellished.”

In the book, Sixx was having what appears to be consensual sex with someone he knew at a party. After a while, he left momentarily to use the bathroom. However, after finding his bandmate, Sixx had returned with Lee and asked him to engage in sexual activity with the woman, who still thought she was having intercourse with Sixx.

We fucked for a while, then I told her I had to go to the bathroom. I went into the party and found Tommy,” Sixx says in the book. “‘Dude, come here.’ I grabbed him. ‘I got this chick in the closet. Follow me, and don’t say a word. When I tell you, start fucking her.’”

“In the closet, I stood directly behind Tommy,” Sixx continues. “He fucked her while she grabbed my hair and yelled, ‘Oh, Nikki! Nikki!’”

According to Rolling Stone, Sixx says that the woman actually called him the following evening to tell him that she had been raped. However, according to Sixx, the woman said she was attacked while she was hitchhiking home instead and not at the party.

“At first, I was relieved, because it meant I hadn’t raped her,” Sixx says in the book. “But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I pretty much had. I was in a zone, though, and in that zone, consequences did not exist. Besides, I was capable of sinking even lower than that.”

Since the publishing of the story, Sixx has made a statement in Rolling Stone:

“The book was written in 2000 during a really low point in my life. I had lost my sobriety and was using drugs and alcohol to deal with a disintegrating relationship which I still to this day regret how I handled..I honestly don’t recall a lot of the interviews with Neil.
I went into rehab in 2001 and really wish I would’ve done my interviews after I was clean and sober like I am today.
I don’t actually recall that story in the book beyond reading it. I have no clue why its in there other than I was outta my head and it’s possibly greatly embellished or [I] made it up. Those words were irresponsible on my part. I am sorry.
There is a lot of horrible behavior in the book.
What I can tell you is that we all lived to regret a lot and learned from it.
We own up to all our behavior that hurt ourselves, our families, friends and any innocents around us.”

The Dirt has since inspired a Mötley Crüe biopic of the same name. The film is set to hit Netflix on March 22. According to Rolling Stone, the scene discussed above will not be featured in the film.
