MUNA and Phoebe Bridgers drop new queer anthem "Silk Chiffon"—watch
MUNA want queer youth to be unapologetically themselves in new “Silk Chiffon” collab with Phoebe Bridgers.
The trio announced their signing to Bridgers’ label Saddest Factory Records in May. Now, Bridgers—who was Alternative Press’ cover star earlier this year—is featured on their new track.

Their latest music in over a year, the song is one of the trio’s more pop-focused offerings, with stripped-back guitars and light, echoey vocals.
“‘Silk Chiffon’ is a sweet, gentle song with a simple mission—to give people, specifically gay ones, something to kiss their sweethearts to,” MUNA exclusively tell Alternative Press.
The visual for the track is inspired by the cult classic film But I’m A Cheerleader. Directed by Ally Pankiw, it sees MUNA members Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson and Josette Maskin arriving at a conversion camp, much like the one in the movie. They sit through lessons in their “Straight is Great: 101” class and must wear stereotypical pink clothes for girls and blue clothes for boys.
Bridgers is featured in the second verse, as she watches campers dancing from the balcony of the house before they catch a ride into town, now able to be themselves and be free.

MUNA want the new generation of queer kids to be able to watch the “Silk Chiffon” music video and then But I’m A Cheerleader and get inspired to advocate for themselves.
“I think it’s really important for queer people to be our archivists and point to these other references that span generations,” Gavin says in a press release.
