1. twenty one pilots

twenty one pilots return from a three-year hiatus was rewarded with gold honors for their fifth studio album, Trench, Dec. 18. With three songs cracking Billboard’s Hot 100 and Trench hitting No. 2 in sales, it’s safe to say it’s been a great year for the duo. The band are still going strong on their Bandito tour, with both international and U.S. dates still coming up.

2. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

The album responsible for swiping No. 1 album bragging rights from twenty one pilots was awarded platinum Dec. 11. Both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s soundtrack for the box-office hit A Star Is Born, as well as the hit single “Shallow,” were certified platinum, each responsible for 1 million units sold. “Shallow” has been a mega-hit since its release, with the track snagging “Best Original Song” at last weekend’s Golden Globes.

3. Queen

In part thanks to their own box-office noise, Queen added to their already stocked trophy cases by going platinum with “Somebody To Love” and selling another million units with “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the latter of which is the namesake for the major motion picture.

4. Halsey

Halsey continues her meteoric rise with another hit, “Without Me.” Not only was the single awarded platinum Dec. 12, but after hitting No. 1 on Billboard, it’s spent an additional 13 weeks on the charts with no signs of leaving anytime soon. (Oh, and she just remixed it with Juice WRLD, so you should probably check that out.)

5. Juice WRLD

Juice WRLD, in addition to collaborating with Halsey and Brendon Urie, has had plenty of success on his own last year. Goodbye & Good Riddance went gold, with “Lucid Dreams,” “All Girls Are The Same” and “Lean Wit Me” off the album both going platinum.”

6. Eminem

Aside from making headlines with a booming diss track directed at Machine Gun Kelly among others, Eminem’s 10th album was a rampant success, reaching platinum status. The album also successfully called out what seemed like half the music industry, including Odd Future, Drake, Lil Pump and Migos and more.

7. Panic! At The Disco

Panic! At The Disco got a major callback from their 2013 single, “This Is Gospel,” which went multi-platinum Dec. 12 five years after its initial release. The track is a Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die! era staple, and the band are still honoring that in their sets.

8. Kesha

With the longest list of December awards by far, Kesha had various singles and albums from her career gain RIAA achievements in December. Taken from 2017’s Rainbow, “Praying” and “Woman” hit multi-platinum and gold respectively.

9. 5 Seconds Of Summer

Two singles off 5 Seconds Of Summer’s latest album made a splash in a big way Dec. 12, with “Youngblood” going multi-platinum and “Want You Back” going gold. “Youngblood” also powered its way into the number one spot on the Billboard 200 in June, putting the cherry on top of a great year for the band.

10. Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino stirred the pot with his music video for “This Is America,” chock full of hidden messages on the rapper/comedian/actor’s views on the social and political climate of the United States. Apart from the video making for some great memes (and the controversy that went along with them), the song itself was a success in its own right, going multi-platinum along with 2016’s “Redbone” selling another million copies.

11. Walk The Moon

Walk The Moon got some recognition for their 2014 album, Talking Is Hard, which went platinum in December and peaked at number four on the Billboard 100 following its release.

12. Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish solidified herself as a top up-and-coming pop artist, blessing us with three gold singles. “When the party’s over,” “COPYCAT” and “my boy” should give hope for much more to come from the 17 year old.
