My Chemical Romance explain taking government loans for reunion tour
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, various artists were forced to cancel or postpone their 2020 tours. This unforeseen circumstance has caused major financial losses for some in the touring industry. My Chemical Romance are just one of many bands who received government-backed loans to cover losses for their postponed reunion tour.
Now, the band are explaining why they took financial assistance from the government.

Following their Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the U.K. postponements, My Chemical Romance decided to officially push their first U.S. tour in nine years to 2021. Now, not only are the band members unable to tour, but their tour crew is also unable to work until concerts resume.
All of this ultimately led to My Chemical Romance’s decision to receive PPP loans from the U.S. federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program. For MCR, they are using the money to make sure their crew and their families are taken care of financially at this time. The band further detail their decision in a statement to Rolling Stone.
“MCR received PPP money to ensure their crew is funded in these times of uncertainty until we are able to be out on the road again,” they say. “We are so grateful to these skilled, dedicated people – some of them are parents, others caretakers, still others who simply have rent to pay – and this money helps them take care of themselves and their families.”
Other artists including the Eagles, Guns ‘N’ Roses and Green Day have also taken out PPP loans during this time. Green Day recently announced that their Hella Mega Tour in North America with Fall Out Boy and Weezer is postponed. The rescheduled 2021 tour dates were announced earlier this month.

My Chemical Romance’s tours in Europe, the U.K. and the U.S. are all now happening in 2021. All tickets purchased are valid for the rescheduled dates. Refunds are also available at the point of purchase.
“As a band, we are deeply aware of the profound problems and crucial issues the world is facing right now,” they say in a statement. “These issues are all life-changing, and we have them in the forefront of our minds on a regular basis. All of our focus should be on making the world better in every way we can. We would never want to distract from the challenges we are facing right now, but we feel it is the right thing to let people know that we have rescheduled our shows, so that we can offer people a refund on tickets in these difficult financial times.”
