Author of Harry Potter fanfiction "My Immortal" has revealed her identity

The mysterious Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way, author of My Immortal, has come forward. You might remember the fanfiction if you were an internet person in 2006 and 2007 when it was initially published: A Harry Potter fanfic that tells the story of Ebony, a goth teenage vampire who attends Hogwarts, and MCR happens to make an appearance every now and then. It’s a 44 chapter series, and if you’re interested in giving it a read, you can do so here.

Now, years later, the author, Rose Christo, has officially come forward after announcing her new memoir, Under the Same Stars: The Search for My Brother and the True Story of My Immortal.

It was originally published on FanFiction.net under the username XXXbloodyrists666XXX, according to Insider.

In fact, it even inspired a web series based on the “most infamous Harry Potter fanfic ever written,” as they explain:

So why did she decide to reveal her identity now? Under the Same Stars: The Search for My Brother and the True Story of My Immortal covers her childhood in the New York foster care system as she searches for her younger brother, Buzzfeed explains. She explains that the publishing of the fanfic coincides with the way she used the fanfiction community to help search for her brother, all explained in her forthcoming memoir.

In fact, she tells Buzzfeed that she never would have come forward “if not for the fact that it coincided with the things that happened to [her] as a teen.”

She explains that when she and co-author “Raven” first started, they were working on a school computer using a “$5 flash drive,” which is partially how she proved to the team at MacMillan that she actually wrote the fanfic. In fact, the MacMillan team took a “three-day vetting process” to prove her identity, which she explains on her Tumblr.

Her Tumblr account also gives a deep-dive into her personal life and the “troll fic” that is My Immortal.

While much about her life has been revealed, in May 2018 when Under the Same Stars: The Search for My Brother and the True Story of My Immortal is released, we are bound to learn plenty more.
