Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden members form new band 3rd Secret, drop album—listen

Bassist Krist Novoselic (Nirvana), drummer Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) and guitarist Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) have formed a supergroup called 3rd Secret. Additionally, they’ve already released a self-titled debut album.

The band also includes guitarist Bubba Dupree (Void) and singers Jillian Raye (Giants In The Trees) and Jennifer Johnson.

The new group and the album come as a surprise. After releasing albums with his band Giants In The Trees in 2017 and 2019, Novoselic has kept a fairly low profile. However, he did write in a now-deleted tweet in February that he was trying to finish an album.

According to the band’s website, Novoselic and Cameron appear to be the primary songwriters of the 11-track LP. Jack Endino, who previously worked on the classic Nirvana album Bleach, co-produced and mixed the album.
