Aside from the epic performance, which we’ll get to later, the band were terrified to play one of the “craziest” games Corden’s ever featured on the show.
It’s called tattoo roulette, which sounds like a bad idea in itself. The premise was that there were five boxes put in front of each member of the band and the host. One of the boxes was marked “tattoo” on the inside while the other four were marked “safe”.
If a 5 Seconds of Summer member got the box marked “tattoo,” they had to get “Late, Late” inked on their body forever right there during the show. If Corden picked the box, he had to get “5SOS” on his body. It was super serious, as they had a tattoo artist ready to go right there on stage.
The group looked nervous before the game even started, with Luke Hemmings revealing that he’s the only 5SOS member who has never been inked. Despite his lack of tattoo experience, he was up for the challenge. Then, Michael Clifford said he was probably the most nervous of the group even though he has a few tattoos.
You can see the clip of the game below to see who had the unfortunate fate of getting a last-minute tattoo on the show.
The band also gave a high-energy performance their most recent single “Teeth” complete with strobe lights. You can see a video of that below.
“I know what you’re thinking. It’s a funny name. And you’re like, ‘What’s Teeth even going to sound like?’” the band explains.
“We’re in the studio with Andrew Watt, Nellie, Tim Posey, who we did Young Blood and a couple other…and we were writing for like a month, or I mean a bit more than that, and just trying to search for something that was a step forward from Young Blood and all that stuff that we’re riding on the third album and Ryan Tedder was in this day and we’re kind of flipping through. I always wanted to write with him for years.
“As a band, we look up to One Republic obviously, and him as like a pop songwriter so to write with him was already awesome. We’re kind of flipping through ideas and kind of writing a little bit and it didn’t really work and then at the end of the day this idea came about and yeah, it happened really quickly. A lot of times the best songs just kind of fall out quickly.
“I think for us we’ve kind of felt that ‘Teeth’ was always going to be the track that was kind of setting the like precedent for the rest of this record and I think ‘Easier’ for us has always felt like a bit of a setup. Kind of easing into the new different styles and genres and visuals and stuff like that, and I think ‘Teeth’ is where we’re going to come balls blazing.”
You can watch a clip from the interview below as well as the official music video for “Teeth”.
