5 Seconds Of Summer have finally made their way back onto the scene with the announcement of their first new song in two years, plus a massive tour. Now that “Want You Back” is out there for the world to hear, the Aussie pop-rockers have revealed the inspiration and nerves that have come along with making their return.

Guitarist Michael Clifford finds that coming back to the scene after being away for two years has been very daunting for the band.

“I think we were so nervous, and I think we still are really nervous about the rest of the record,” Clifford tells Radio.com. “We’ve lived with the songs for two years, but I think that’s what’s making us so driven to make sure it’s the best it can be.”

That being said, having time away from the momentum of touring life gave the band some much needed rest and a refuel.

“We had just been touring for so long that it was just like killing us. It’s so much more beneficial for us to take a year and gather our thoughts and then be more driven.”

As far as “Want You Back” is concerned, the band say the process wasn't super strenuous and it came naturally.

“It was actually the last song we wrote over the one-and-a-half year process of writing the record, so it was very relieving to hit the jackpot at the end,” bassist Calum Hood says.

“It’s about wanting someone back, ” adds frontman Luke Hemmings. “Or not even someone, even like the feeling of losing something and wanting it back, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be about a particular person. It can be about a feeling you are trying to chase.”

Drummer Ashton Irwin sums up their thoughts thus far: “This era of 5 Seconds Of Summer feels like the first era to us, which is amazing.”
