A pack of the legendary “Szechuan sauce” just sold for nearly $15,000 because of ‘Rick And Morty’
McDonalds released its Szechuan sauce back in 1998, and it seemingly disappeared from people’s minds—that is, until the newest episode of Rick And Morty.
In the surprise April Fools’ Day episode, Rick And Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland decided to fill the episode with references to this legendary sauce, and a pack just sold on eBay—for $14,700.

According to Consequence of Sound, the seller of the sauce on eBay said he found the sauce—in a “really old car” he bought: “I just bought a really old car, while cleaning it I found a packet of this sauce. After watching the recent episode of Rick and Morty I went online to see if it was worth anything. Turns out it was. Also this comes with a packet of wasabi as well.”
In addition to the crazy eBay sales, there is currently a petition on Change.org, titled “Bring back McDonald's chicken nugget szechuan sauce,” and it already has over 36,000 supporters.
It was first released as a promotional launch that corresponded to the release of Disney’s Mulan, and in the episode, Rick acquires the Szechuan sauce and proves to the Galactic Federation agent that the sauce is actually pretty incredible. (And the agent loved the sauce as much as we do.)
The sauce returns at the end of the episode, too. Rick explodes to Morty about how great this sauce is once again, and if we learn anything, it’s that Rick really loves Szechuan sauce.
“I’ll go out and find some more of that Mulan Szechuan Teriyaki dipping sauce, Morty. Because that’s what this is all about Morty – that’s my one-armed man! I’m not driven by avenging my dead family, Morty, that was fake, I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty, that’s my series arc, Morty, if it takes nine seasons. I want my McNugget dipping sauce Szechuan sauce, Morty, that’s what’s going to take us all the way to the end, Morty. Season nine more seasons Morty, nine more seasons until I get that dipping Szechuan sauce, for 97 more years, Morty. I want that McNugget sauce, Morty.”
