Riding the Pokémon Go hype, Legendary Entertainment is partnering with the Pokémon Company to launch its first ever live-action Pokémon film (via Variety).

This film will start an entire live-action Pokémon franchise. Full details haven't been released just yet, but production is slated to begin in 2017.

Labeled as “Detective Pikachu,” a new character in the Pokémon Universe introduced through a Japanese video game, the film will be distributed by Universal Pictures outside of Japan. Inside of Japan, Toho, Pokémon Company's longtime partner, will distribute the film.
