Most people remember Schlesinger during his time in Fountains Of Wayne. However, Schlesinger was a multi-talented creator. He was known for working on various music, movie and television projects during his life.

In 1996, his song “That Thing You Do!” which is featured in Tom Hanks‘ directorial debut of the same name earned Schlesinger an Oscars nomination for original song. As well, he is credited for writing song material for 2007’s Music & Lyrics starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.

Also, let’s not forget about his work on the CW musical comedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Alongside his co-creators and writers Rachel Bloom and Jack Dolgen, Schlesinger is credited for writing over 150 songs for the series.

Now, a benefit CD has been made in his honor. His musical colleagues and friends are remembering his talented songwriting with Saving For A Custom Van, a tribute album benefitting COVID-19 relief.

The 31-track album is out today on Father/Daughter Records and Wax Nine. It is available exclusively on Bandcamp. The album features Schlesinger’s collaborators, tour mates, fans and friends offering up their versions of songs from throughout his career.

All proceeds from the album will go to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, which is helping music industry community members affected by the pandemic. Head here to purchase the album on Bandcamp for $10.
