Against Me! reveal spring co-headlining tour with Baroness

Against Me! are continuing to do what they have been doing so successfully for nearly 20 years—tour. The Gainesville-native four-piece started a pulse-pounding punk fury back in 2001 with their Crime (Ep) and haven’t let up for a minute since.

Now, Against Me! just announced another tour in May, this time with prog-metal giants, Baroness. Support during the tour will also be provided by Destroy Boys and Drug Church

Back in December, Against Me! announced a run of dates for March and April of this year, and now they’re tacking on even more shows for May.

Vocalist/guitarist Laura Jane Grace, guitarist James Bowman, bassist Andrew Seward and drummer Atom Willard spent the first part of this year writing and recording the follow-up to their 2016 release, Shape Shift With Me. Beginning in March, the band will resume touring with Stef Chura opening nearly all of the dates.

The new tour kicks off in Detroit, MI on May 1 and will end in Stroudsburg, PA on May 30.

Speaking on the tour, Baroness founder John Baizley couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s extremely exciting to get back out on the road in the U.S., this time with our friends in Against Me! We love tours that offer this much variety of sound. While our styles or sound may differ, we share some background in common,” Baizley says.

“Our two bands originate from the deeply Southern U.S., we’re both products of the independent/DIY community and as we’ve grown, we’ve both worked tirelessly to maintain an ever-evolving independent and creative spirit. When we were a very young band, we looked up to and admired Against Me! In ’04, or ’05, I remember our vehicle breaking down in Gainesville, Fla. While we were struggling in vain to fix a road-worn vehicle, we ran into Against Me! (whom we did not know at the time).”

“After hearing our troubles, and without a moment’s hesitation, they helped an out-of-town band of strangers fix their vehicle and get back out on the road. From that day forward, I’ve had a profound respect for the band… we cannot wait to get on tour with them.”

Laura Jane Grace beat the hell out of 2019 with a workaholic fury. The band  completed the 2 Nights/4 Records/48 Songs tour where they played four albums (2005’s Searching For A Former Clarity, 2007’s New Wave, 2010’s White Crosses and 2014’s Transgender Dysphoria Blues) in five different cities.

Grace and drummer Willard also enlisted producer Marc Hudson to play bass for her solo project, Laura Jane Grace And The Devouring Mothers, whose debut album Bought To Rot was released by Bloodshot Records in November 2018. The trio toured extensively in 2019, only resting to work on Shape Shift With Me‘s successor.

Tickets for this new tour go on sale at 10 a.m. local time this Friday, Feb 28 here. A special fan pre-sale will begin Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. local time with the password AM2020. A full list of Against Me! tour dates is below.
