All Time Low end break, begin work on next album

All Time Low are finally working on a new album after taking a short break, frontman Alex Gaskarth has confirmed.

Gaskarth appear alongside blink-182’s Mark Hoppus on The Music Podcast to talk about their project Simple Creatures. While he was there, he spent some time dishing about All Time Low’s next record.

Earlier this year, Gaskarth discussed the band were taking “a bit of a break” in 2019. Now three months later, Gaskarth confirmed that they’re working on an album and it would be out “definitely by 2020.”

“We had a long record cycle with Last Young Renegade and we kind of felt like we circled the world twice on that music and it just felt like, maybe, the right time to take a little break from being on the road with All Time Low,” Gaskarth said. “We just felt like maybe we pummeled people over the head with it too much.”

“It was the right moment to take a step back and re-evaluate what the next iteration of All Time Low would be,” he continued. “We’ve started digging in the demos and new music is taking shape.”

He added that he was just in Nashville with drummer Rian Dawson forming ideas.

“It’s nice I mean we have an amazing head start on the whole thing and there’s already pictures forming, which is a nice way to approach it,” he said.

Even though he said they would put an album out by next year, he stressed that the band wasn’t trying to rush to meet a deadline.

“I don’t think we’re going to do anything until we feel like it’s ready and there’s a record there,” he said. “We don’t want to force it, obviously, but at the same time, I think we’re always amped and ready to go.”
