All Time Low finally drop new track “Getaway Green” after 2019 live debut

After a tense couple of days, All Time Low have officially released their newest single “Getaway Green.” The track was released as a ransom for drummer Rian Dawson after he was kidnapped by the infamous “Birthday” panda.

“Getaway Green” is All Time Low’s third single from their upcoming album Wake Up, Sunshine. Previously, they’ve released “Some Kind Of Disaster” and “Sleeping In.”

So it’s a lot to take in, man gets kidnapped by panda, panda orders band to release new song. Band initially refuses only to finally give in to the panda’s wishes.

A brief summary of events can be seen in the below tweets.

Alex Gaskarth began an Instagram Live video after announcing it on Twitter.

Dawson joins the video from his own end and is soon kidnapped by the panda who enters the frame, holding a sign that says “release getaway green if you want to see rian again.”

All Time Low announced Dawson’s kidnapping on Twitter but said they do not negotiate with pandas.

The panda threatened even more harm to Dawson.

After awhile, All Time Low officially gave in, and Gaskarth returned to Instagram Live late on March 17 to play the song for the panda.

Fans with keen ears and that are good at the internet might recognize that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard “Getaway Green.” All Time Low actually debuted it last year at Slam Dunk Festival

The song being titled “Getaway Green” and releasing on St. Patrick’s Day is also not a coincidence. The band has changed all of the Wake Up, Sunshine-yellow on their profiles to shamrock green.

All Time Low also released a music video along with the song that consists of footage taken from their limited run of super-intimate gigs around the time they announced the new album. Watch it below.

“Getaway Green” Lyrics

Sipping cherry cola
Staring at the poster on the wall
What’s the point of going out
When you could just give me a call?
Sitting on your sofa
Reminiscing over 23
You touched yourself, the way I used to
Now that’s just a memory

Weekend wonderful, fade-away youth
Summer symphony, what could I do?

We were getaway green
In a world of black and white
Getaway green
Like the Costa Mesa traffic lights
Keep on, keep on, keep on
Telling me I’m what you need
Like getaway green
Getaway green

I know I’m not supposed to
Color in the lines when it comes to you
Undefined and out of my mind
‘Til you get lost and lonely, too
I guess I get the message
We don’t have to stress this anymore
If it happens, then it happens
Happy to have you at all

Do you want to know how the story ends?
Hazy and spun out, just more than friends
Weekend wonderful, a dizzy dream
A colorful lie, we made a hell of a team
